Duane Neuman

Duane C Neuman served his country in World War II with the 460th Bombardment Group .

General Orders #842, 15th Air Force, dated 4 June 1944

Soldiers Medal

Citation
For heroism at great risk to life at an Allied airfield in Italy on 5 April 1944. Observing a B-24 type aircraft crash and burn on landing, these men immediately rushed to the scene of the accident. After removing crew members who had been thrown clear of the ship to safety, heedless of the intense heat from the burning fuel, exploding ammunition and the imminent danger of explosion, they made their way into the burning wreckage to remove other wounded crew members who were trapped. After successfully removing one (1) of the wounded men, they again attempted to make their way into the burning debris, when they were forced to turn back ask the wreckage collapsed. By their conspicuous heroism and courage in risking their lives to save the lives of others, these men have reflected great credit upon themselves and the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
